We were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout at the Sports & Community Open Day at the Irish Centre on Sunday 9th August. With the sun shining and a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day, it was wonderful to see so many members of the community come along to enjoy everything the Irish Centre has to offer.
The day was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the range of sports, activities, entertainment and facilities available at the Irish Centre, with plenty going on for people of all ages.
From sport and Irish culture to live music, family activities and great food, there really was something for everyone.
Pat Benson’s Boxing Academy provided exhibition sparring sessions as well as interactive boxing sessions, giving visitors the opportunity to see the academy in action and even get involved themselves.
St Brendan’s GAA also showcased Gaelic football with exhibition sessions taking place throughout the day, highlighting the fantastic sporting opportunities available within the Irish community.
Macaron School of Irish Dance also treated attendees to wonderful performances and entertained the crowds with their talented dancers, and also provided dancing sessions for those who wanted to join in.
West Midlands Travel ran a bowls tournament throughout the day, adding another sporting activity for visitors to enjoy.
There was plenty of entertainment away from the sporting activities too. Fitzgerald’s Irish Store was open throughout the day, while live music from Jack Banting and Connor McGrath helped create a fantastic atmosphere across the venue.
Families were well catered for, with bouncy castles, face painting and BBQ food available throughout the day. It was brilliant to see children and adults enjoying the activities.
As Birmingham Irish Association, we would like to extend a huge thank you to the Irish Centre for hosting this event and to everyone who helped showcase the venue, facilities and the wide range of activities available within the centre.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Sports & Community Open Day. The fantastic turnout and atmosphere showed just how much the Irish Centre has to offer as a hub for sport, culture, community, and family fun.
