Birmingham Irish Association - Toy Appeal 2025 Update

Birmingham Irish • January 24, 2026

In December 2025, the Birmingham Irish Association proudly reintroduced its Toy Appeal, continuing our commitment to supporting our wonderful community during the Christmas period.

The appeal focuses on supporting individuals and families facing hardship at Christmas, particularly in light of the ongoing cost of living crisis. Over the years, we have consistently received incredible support from local schools across Birmingham, GAA clubs, and members of our wider community.

We are delighted to share that the 2025 Toy Appeal was once again a huge success. The organisation received an outstanding number of toy donations, and we are continually humbled by the generosity shown at what is often a very costly time of year. While the response to our appeals is always heart-warming, this year’s kindness has been especially moving as so many more people in our community are being affected by the current crisis.

BIA Toy Appeal 2025

We would like to extend a special thank you to Eddie O’Connor and Bishop Challoner Catholic College, whose support was instrumental in making this appeal possible. The school opened its doors daily to collect donations, carefully sorted toys for families in contact with us, and ensured they were delivered in time for Christmas.

A project of this scale requires a great deal of time, organisation, and dedication, and we cannot thank Eddie, the students, teachers, and parents enough for their unwavering support throughout the process.

We hope that many children woke up to smiles on Christmas morning, something that would not be possible without the continued generosity and outstanding donations we receive each year.

The staff and trustees of the Birmingham Irish Association are truly grateful to everyone who got involved, demonstrated incredible community spirit, and helped make a real difference to a child’s Christmas. 🎄✨

A massive heartfelt thank you to all the pupils, parents, and staff at the Tolkien Schools who have supported this important initiative so generously over the years. All the schools collect toys to support the donation and contribute a financial donation from their charity pot. We are so very grateful to Our Lady of Lourdes, St Annes, St Albans, St Bernard’s, St Catherine of Siena, St Dunstan’s, St Edwards, St Mary’s, St Martin De Porres, St Jude’s, St John and Monica Catholic Schools, and Bishop Challoner Catholic College for their incredible support.

I would also like to thank the incredible efforts from our Birmingham GAA Clubs and the wonderful families that they serve. We received huge donations of Toys and vouchers from each club. A big thank you to John Mitchell’s, Erin Go Bragh, St. Brendan’s and Sean McDermotts GAA Clubs again showing the incredible spirit across the GAA community. I would also thank the James Staunton Foundation Trust for their generous donation and to Jav Fennelly and The Shaking Hand Pub in Shirley, who collected toys from his customers to support the initiative.

BIA Health Day January 2025

This year the BIA Christmas Toy Appeal reached out to many communities across Birmingham and Sandwell to support families who face desperate challenges. We wanted to take at least one worry away this Christmas and to try and prioritise a little happiness on Christmas morning when children opened a present.

Thank you to the many community groups that we have collaborated with to reach far and wide across the city. Some of these include St Vincent De Paul and Mini Vinnies, Camp Hill Rugby Club, Solihull Family Hubs, Birmingham Children's Hospital, Sandwell Irish Society, Acorns Children's Hospice, Catholic Partnership Schools to support families in the communities they serve, Bottleville Social Club, all the referrals received and the many families who got in touch directly. It has been another great success and an incredible example of many communities coming together to look after families in need on our own doorstep.
