Meet our team! BIA Dementia Centre Care Support Worker, Sharon Toy

Birmingham Irish • May 25, 2021

Since June 1957, Birmingham Irish Association have always taken pride in the dedication, strength and empathy that all staff embody. Throughout our 60 years in the city, it’s safe to say we have served, comforted and shared light to our community through many a troubling time.

To do this without our wonderful team would be impossible, and a magnificent example of how strength, dedication and empathy is shown is through the work of one of our fantastic Dementia Care Support Worker, Sharon.

In January 2020, we were delighted to announce the opening of Sharon's new dementia centre, based in Maryvale Community Centre, and to see it doing wonderfully. Whilst open, we saw many regular clients and a wealth of creative, engaging and popular activities being explored. With the arrival of the pandemic a couple of months later, the centre sadly had to be put on pause to channel energy into new emergency ventures.

As an organisation, we are so grateful for Sharon's hard work, optimism and wholesome nature as this has brought such warmth to every aspect of our emergency COVID-19 extended services over the last twelve months.

You are a credit to us Sharon, as all our staff are. We look in hope to this next chapter, as Maryvale Dementia Centre reopens and brings light to those and their families who need our help more than ever before.

Our next edition of our newsletter will feature another fantastic staff member from our organisation, so make sure to stay tuned!
