Irish Passport application process: an update

Birmingham Irish • June 24, 2023

With summer holidays soon approaching, we wanted to share an update about Irish passport applications, to ensure hassle-free holiday preparation for all.

At the present moment, all adult Irish passport applications have a 12 week turnaround time, but please do not accept this estimated issue date as a guarantee, as this could change for many reasons and could be longer for children's renewals and first time passports. As there are currently no fast-track services available from the Irish passport office, we would strongly advise that no travel be booked until passports have been received.

If a passport renewal is needed, a renewals only urgent appointment service is available at the London Passport Office on Cromwell Road. To book your appointment, please click here

Please note that a paper application form APS2E would need to be completed and signed by a witness along with your photographs prior to your appointment in London.

Our office in Digbeth can provide the APS2E form and also a designated witness by appointment only. Paper applications are only accepted for this process and please ensure that all instructions are followed before arriving for your appointment.

For all passport applications, a tracking service is provided online using the tracking number received via email when your application was made. We strongly advise that all email addresses entered in applications are checked thoroughly before submitting, as email will be the primary form of contact from the Irish Passport Office if they require any further information. Applications can be tracked by visiting: www.passporttracking.dfa.ie/passporttracking

For specific help on an application, to book an appointment or for any Irish passport application enquiries, please contact our office team through 0121 604 6111 between 10am and 3pm from Monday to Friday, or email catherine@birish.org.uk
